In November 2018, I was one of the many who took to the streets of France wearing a yellow vest. Like countless others, I had frustration at the government , at inequality and concerns for the future. We marched, we shouted, we demanded change. But when I look back at it, was it worth it? As time passed, I realized that true maturity isn’t about fighting the external world but mastering the internal one. Protesting was an expression of strength, but detachment taught me an even greater strength. With the ability to hold peace within myself, even when the world is chaotic.
I was full of expectations from the institutions and government to create change back in the days. Change will not come from external things or from chaos. But change will come from within, like discovering my purpose, my values and what impact can I have in the world. Anger and frustration about whatever related to the economy or politicians can only lead to self destruction. Also I’ve seen a lot of jealousy toward successful people. But let me tell you that it flips back to you in any form and create your life with all these stories.
My habits make me out of the average people, but the people implementing good habits or choices is increasingly growing amid chaos. Now I have a different perception of the world. I used to see a world of chaos and wanted to do the revolution to create more chaos for a positive change. But the world doesn’t work like that. The world is full of opportunities!
You can’t change people
As I’m writing this, this reminds me a verse from the Quran that says “Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves” (13:11)
If we collectively become aware of the treasure and the uniqueness within us we can change the world. You absolutely can’t do the work for other people. Unlocking potential is never about you, it’s up to the individuals. Did you know the contributor of coaching outcome is 40% readiness of the coachee, 30% relationship, 15% approach and another 15% placebo? Readiness of the coachee is the biggest part. It’s about having the practical and psychological capacity to start a journey toward change.
I firmly believe that if you truly want to change the world for the better, you have to seek the treasure and the potential within you. Journaling is a great tool to question ourselves and to explore how can we bring great value to the world. It’s not about Donald Trump, the government or the state of the economy. We are all creators of value and we all have the capacities to change ourselves beyond the average. And it starts with awareness and recognising our own talents. This also comes with understanding your values and your own strengths.
Equality
During this movement I’ve seen a lot of people demanding for equality and more fairness in wealth distribution. A lot of furry and angriness from the crowds and really felt concerned. I’ve learned through the years that it’s purely scarcity mindset. But I was proud of the solidarity within the movement and from the the people giving food at occupied roundabouts and all kind of support. But through the years I’ve realised life doesn’t work like that.
Such protests will never bring you anything to create the life most people wish. I mean most people want more money, fame, luxury villas or luxury cars. But what does it takes? It takes time for reflection and self discovery seeking hidden talents deep within us. And honestly I you would have all those how happy would you be? A lot of people perceive rich people as irritable and stingy people. As well as poor people are perceived as people frustrated with life or living in mediocrity.
This leads to figure out some kind of disrespect I face everyday. When disrespect is from the rich, it often carries an air of superiority, being looked down with the weight of privilege. When disrespect is from the poor it often carries another energy that springs from pain, frustration or survival mode. The rich may disrespect to protect their sense of control. And the poor may disrespect to protect their sense of dignity. In both cases it reveals the same truth: disrespect is a symptom of disconnection and a lack of fulfilment.
True equality is born when we respond to all Human beings with the same inner fairness no matter their background, wealth or status.
Fraternity
During the Yellow vest movement, one of the most powerful things I felt was fraternity. Strangers that stood shoulders to shoulders, bound not by status or wealth but to be seen and heard.
Fraternity is what transforms a crowd into a community, true fraternity doesn’t erase our differences it weaves them into a bond stronger than division. Self development industry is fast growing all around the world. From every part of the globe so many people yearn for healthier lives and on a journey on personal growth to be at the best version of themselves. I see this from many people who want to start a business or reflect how they can have an influence in the world.
This is the mentality I love and the kind of people I put my intention on. I don’t see a world of chaos as portrayed in the news. There are so many people that gives me faith in Humanity like at 2Blimitless. The world is an amazing place if we cut the noise a little bit. If you focus on the goodness and what this world as to offer, your life will become amazing. As a Frenchman self development makes me fraternise and create friendships and bounds with people from around the world. From the UK where I live, UAE, Australia and all kind of people from all genders, skin colours, genders, sexual orientation or nationalities…
Final Thoughts
When I commute I see most people distracted by their phones or read news papers. If I can give you an advice is to do be different, like reading a book or simply contemplate the view and the scenery on you way. What I mean by that is to stay away from the noise of distractions or the news. I don’t watch the news or scroll through social media in the morning. Not just because it’s aimless distraction but to avoid to bump into something that would make me angry. I don’t want to start my days with things that would potentially make me angry.
I think no one don’t want that. I’ve realised that staying away from the noise and in solitude is when I listen to my intuition and inner power. If you listen to yourself you can turn your life into an amazing book. This is my way to make revolution in this world, unlocking my potential through coaching and being a coach myself is my revolution. It’s not by striving or protesting we gonna change the world for the better. The revolution that many in France talk about will not rise from chaos but from inner transformation, unlocking potential, awareness and connections with likeminded people. This is where I see unity in this world.
Coaching is the true revolution!
