Being present in fasting

Ramadan is here! What I like the most during this period is the inner peace I cultivate with the fast. Fasting is really interesting and it’s present in all cultures and civilizations making its practice universal. As I’m sat down in my workplace instead of the coffee shop I will explain the backed science benefits of fasting. But let me ask some questions first!

  • What do you know about fasting
  • Have you ever fasted?
  • What benefits did you find yourself from fasting?
  • How present are you?

The most common fast I see aside of Ramadan is intermittent fasting. When I see a lot of inspirational people online doing this it gives me joy. Because I know the spiritual significance of Ramadan and a lot of people I know experience inner peace and a sense of self control. The word self control is very important in decision making as well as focus and managing emotions. Because you restrain yourself from eating or drinking which is both for Ramadan. You are more aware of your emotions and how to welcome them without judgement. Does it remind you of something? Stoicism of course!

Ramadan 2025

Last year my goal during Ramadan was to maximize my focus and cutting all distractions. I’ve done a lot of work since last year and changed a lot both physically and personally. My body is changing a lot with a 5 times a week training! So my focus is to keep that consistency by reducing intensity during my exercise routine. It’s completely new for me because I had a routine of 2 or 3 times a week last year. Without the same intensity of course!

This year I do the same I cut all distractions in the morning when the fast begins. Then my rituals follow up as usual. This year my focus is to stay consistent in my training and working in the morning. No caffe Nero for me haha. But I manage pretty well and never skip my habits twice! I keep the ritual of getting sunlight exposure to optimize my sleep.

Fasting encourages to build discipline in your daily routine. It helped me to manage my emotions however this year I’ve learned not to rush myself when I wake up in the morning. I take my time to eat and sipping some water.

A well prepared person never has to rush.

I used to rush myself to get everything done before going to work. It doesn’t work like that because it increases stress and nervousness. Rushing can lead to anxiety and can impact your digestive and immune systems. I practice mindfulness when I wake up in the morning and do some mediations. Recently I started to do with subliminal messages for success and for life coaching. In a way to influence my subconscious for success and what I want to do. This Ramadan 2025 I maximize this as the fast puts me in a more relaxed state and presence. Living the present moment!

What do I learn?

This year is the starting point of my journey as a coach. I indeed joined the 2blimitless coach training course. As I’m more focus and alert it’s even more easy for me to be present. I manage my emotions by resisting the urge of giving advice which is contrary to coaching. I feel more present with my team at work and more engaged with people in general. Fasting fosters humility and gratitude by always finding something to be grateful for. But humility is the word that always pops into my head.

There’s nothing greater than being humble. I admit I’ve failed in many things always learning about myself in situations. Each steps no matter how small they are are wins and pause when necessary. I’ve learned to adapt to people and situations since last Ramadan. I open myself to others easily I admit I can fail and that’s ok.

So now I ask the question to you. What can you learn and benefit from failure?

Be like the bamboo, the higher you grow the deeper you bow. Chinese proverb
